The Canal Digital Story

Canal Digital was established in 1997, its primary purpose being distribution of television programs, and conducting activities related to broadcast and entertainment.

Televerket (former name for what is today called Telenor) acquires three transponders from Intelsat at 1° West
1992
Televerket acquires the Marco Polo 2-satellite from BSkyB
1992
Exclusive distribution of FilmNet’s channels, Eurosport and CNN
1997
Telenor merges its satellite distribution business, CTV, with FilmNet’s   distribution company, MultiChoice. C+ buys MultiChoice’s mother company, FilmNet. The new merged company is called Canal Digital!
2002
Canal Digital becomes a 100% subsidiary of Telenor
2005
First Nordic content provider to offer HDTV
2010
Canal Digital Kabel-TV AS (Norway) becomes a part of Telenor Norway
2011
Canal Digital AS is re-established. Full focus on DTH in the Nordics.
